SEXUAL ASSAULT NURSE EXAMINER (S.A.N.E.)

Our mission is to financially support the education of the SANE (sexual assault nurse examiners) Nurses who forensically collect evidence on the survivors.

We have an ongoing need for assistance to support the education of S.A.N.E (sexual assault nurse examiner) Nurses in our community. S.A.N.E Nurses receive special forensic training and require ongoing classes to stay current with the technology needed to help survivors.

We need your help in our efforts to help educate the S.A.N.E. (sexual assault nurse examiner) Nurses in our community. Locally reported cases of sexual assault overwhelmingly involve children under the age of 10. In 2019, there were 45 victims of assault reported in Washington County.

Every S.A.N.E. Nurse receives special forensic training in the form of workshops, seminars and continuing educational classes in order to stay current on the technology changes needed to help survivors. Your support is needed, and all donations go to local needs, which are many.

Please help us help others.

How does this program help?

Our S.A.N.E. nurses testify in court cases.  Perpetrators who would have been released back into our community – possibly repeating the crime or victimizing another victim are caught because of this incredible training in gathering evidence forensically.  S.A.N.E. nurses  receive training in forensic sciences at local, national, international, and online conferences.

How is it funded?

Donations help recruit and provide training for new S.A.N.E. nurses, purchase necessary equipment and supplies, and assist in efforts to educate the community about sexual assault and prevention. Denim Day Paint Night proceeds provide assistance for victims of sexual crimes and funding for continued education for registered nurses.

Support is needed to keep the S.A.N.E. program running. Please donate and register here to help us help others.

How does the program help?

Our S.A.N.E. nurses testify in court cases. During these cases, a 13-year-old was sexually assaulted by her father; the S.A.N.E. nurse was on the stand for more than an hour, and the father was incarcerated. Had it not been for this nurse receiving training in forensic sciences at a conference in Dallas, the perpetrator would have been released back into our community – possibly repeating the crime or victimizing another young girl.

Locally reported cases of sexual assault overwhelmingly involve children under the age of 18.

In 2018, there were 45 victims of assault reported in Washington County.

Denim Day Campaign

Every year, on the last Wednesday in April, The Denim Day Campaign is run in honor of Sexual Violence Awareness Month. In Italy, in 1989, an eighteen-year-old was forcibly raped by her driving instructor. The case against the perpetrator was overturned since the judge ruled that he could not have gotten the victims tight jeans off without her assistance. The judge ruled, this did not count as rape. In solidarity, women in the Italian Parliament all wore jeans to work to protest this ruling. Denim Day was created based on this act and has been in effect for the past 30 years.

Cancellation - Denim Day Paint Night

Denim Day Paint Night was cancelled due to the Coronavirus this year. We still need your help in our efforts to help educate the SANE (sexual assault nurse examiner) Nurses in our community. Every SANE Nurse is specially training forensically.  Workshops, seminars and continuing educational classes are needed to keep up on the technology changes that are needed to help survivors.

S.A.N.E. is a dedicated group of nurses on call 24-hours a day.
